Every Place Your Foot Treads
“…now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.” Joshua 1: 2-3
God had a vast territory in store for the Israelites….every place on which their feet would tread….and all they had to do was step out in obedience to the Lord. What God had in store for the Israelites was more than they could even imagine. I often wonder how much more does God have in store for us, His children, than what we realize? How much greater is our territory? If I insist upon only spending time with other Christians or at church activities, then I am limiting my territory. If I only befriend people who are just like me, then I am limiting my territory. If I am sitting in the waiting room at the doctor’s office and don’t even say hello to the woman next to me, then I am limiting my territory. I honestly believe that God has a much vaster territory for us….if we will only step into it. I am keenly aware of the fact that my family is part of my realm of influence, but what if every time I step out my front door, I am just as aware of the fact that I am stepping into territory that the Lord may have for me? What if I regard every trip to the grocery store, every waiting room, and every volleyball practice as an opportunity to impact others with the love of Christ? I have no idea what territory the Lord has given me as His servant, but I do know this….I can’t out-give or out-serve the Lord. If I am willing to step out in obedience to His call and put my feet wherever He calls me, He will give me the opportunities to bring glory to His name. We have no idea how much greater our impact might be!
Over the past several days, I have received 2 letters from female inmates in the prison in Gatesville,TX. I was surprised and elated to read that there is a group of women who are doing the Titus 2 study in the prison. These inmates were writing to ask if we would send them Titus 2 books so that they can join the study. One of the women was requesting a book for her friend as well, so we have sent 3 Titus 2 books to Gatesville in the past week. As one of the women stated in her letter, “We as women of God need to learn what the scriptures say about us and what we are called to do. The environment we live in is a great mission field.” We have no idea how a Titus 2 study even got started in the Gatesville prison, but we are rejoicing that God saw fit to do that! He enlarged our territory in a way that we had not yet even prayed! That is how awesome our God is….He can take our little loaves and fishes and do great things with them. God can use us to impact others beyond what we can even imagine. So I encourage you to pray that God will enlarge your territory and then step out in obedience when He does! And I am also asking you to pray for these women in the Gatesville prison who are gathering together to study God’s Word. May the word of God have a profound impact in the lives of these women! And who knows what territory the Lord may grant these women!? We may see an entire prison turn to Christ!
