Contentment in Contentious Times

  • 7-8:30 P.M. (August 28 – November 13)
  • Dana Gailey

How we long for contentment. Yet we are living in contentious times with a spiritual war waging against God and His people. The Apostle Paul had learned the secret though, that contentment has less to do with our circumstances or the world around us than with whose voice we are listening to. Like Paul we really can walk in contentment, peace, and purpose right in the middle of our contentious world. FB Meyer described contentment beautifully. “God incarnate is the end of fear and the heart that realizes that He is in the midst will be quiet in the middle of alarm.” The book can be purchased for $12.99 plus tax and shipping from Amazon. This study will also be offered on Tuesday nights in a different room.

You will learn the inductive technique of studying your Bible. “Inductive” means we use the Bible as the primary source of study to learn about God and what the Bible teaches. The Inductive Study Method is an investigative approach to the Bible using three basic components: Observation, Interpretation, and Application. It will be a skill you will be able to use the rest of your life.

1&2 Peter (A John MacArthur Study)

  • 9:30-11:30 A.M. (August 29 – November 14)
  • Ginger Illami, Dawn Sadler and Libby Griffin

Believers in the early church, who were scattered across the Roman Empire, were facing the threat of increased persecution. Peter, the most outspoken of the disciples and leader among the apostles, wrote two practical and encouraging letters to strengthen the hearts of these followers of Christ. Through words of hope and wisdom, he taught them how to live victoriously in the midst of the life-threatening trials they were facing. In his first letter, Peter reminded believers of the many blessings available to them because of their sufferings. In the second letter, he warned them against the false teachers who were invading their churches and teaching them deceptive doctrines. Peter’s letters of encouragement and warning are just as important for believers today to hear, understand, and apply to their lives as they were during the first century.
